Make Your Manicures Last Long!

Updated: 3 days ago

Every woman might’ve dreamt of the perfect nails—from french tips to a sleek nail polish, ladies already have their own idea of their dream nails.

And we get it: achieving the perfect manicure is such a gem, but we know how challenging it can be to get your cleanly-polished nails stay chip-free in the first few hours post-manicure! After passing this hurdle, the next one is probably about keeping the color or design on your nails for a long time.

How Long Does a Manicure Last, Typically?

The longevity of a manicure depends on the type of nail polish used:

  • Regular polish usually chips after 4-5 days.

  • Gel manicure lasts up to 3 weeks.

  • Acrylic nails last 6-8 weeks with optimal appearance.

Nonetheless, you should be taking care of your nails properly regardless of the manicure you got—if you’re the type who wants to keep their nails all natural, we advise you to get it professionally manicured every 2-3 weeks to keep your nails’ health at its optimal state.

Factors to Consider

There are a few factors to consider why nail polish chips off easily—and no, it isn’t just because of “clumsiness” for there’s actually a reason why it peels off quickly.

#1: Skipping the Base Coat

To ensure long-lasting nail polish, start with a base coat, essentially the primer for your nails. It creates a smooth, even surface for the polish to adhere to, preventing chipping and peeling. Avoid applying nail polish directly onto bare nails, as ridges and natural oils can result in an uneven finish.

#2: Low Quality Polish

While you can be thrifty and save up better on cheap nail polish, low quality polishes are rather prone to chipping since most of them contain more solvent (which evaporates quickly!). We recommend you to invest in better quality polishes to have chip-free nails longer.

#3: Excessive Water Exposure

While household chores like washing dishes and doing laundry are essential, it's crucial to be mindful of your fingernails' water exposure if you want your manicures to endure. Water has the ability to weaken the bond of the polish, making it more susceptible to peeling or chipping.

#4: Not Using Top Coat

Just as you use a setting spray to your makeup, use a proper top coat to your nails to shield them from chipping and cracking, making them last longer.

The Right Nail Care

To achieve long-lasting nail polish, proper nail care before and after a manicure is crucial. Here are some nail care tips to consider for a more durable manicure:

#1: Start with Clean Nails ALWAYS

It’s always a good practice to prep your nails before applying nail polish. Make sure to clean, moisturize, buff, and file your nails before anything. This will allow the polish to have a smooth, clean surface to adhere to.

#2: Allow Proper Dry Time

Before doing anything, give your nails at least 3-5 minutes of drying time after applying your top coat. We recommend you air dry for a smoother finish, avoiding air bubbles.

#3: Use Gloves When Doing Chores

Excess water exposure can damage your nail polish, so when doing household chores—especially the dishes and laundry—wear gloves to keep your nails protected and the polish long-lasting.

#4: Keep Your Hands Moisturized

Dry hands, nails, and cuticles weaken a good manicure. Regularly use a hand lotion, cream, or oil to keep your skin moisturized.

#5: Reapply Top Coat

Keep your nails shielded from cracks and chipping by reapplying your top coat every 2-3 days. We advise that you “wrap” your top coat around the tips for a better seal.
